Cars

B&M Fabrication Pty Ltd (BMF) is an automotive restoration company based in Southern Africa.

Our passion lies in revitalizing classic Land Rover and Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles—machines that have played a significant role in our lives, transporting us through the vast and unforgiving African wilderness, where we experience the full beauty of our treasured wildlife and natural landscapes.

These early experiences inspired our deep commitment to preserving our vehicle heritage. Today, the BMF restoration team brings over 150 years of combined design, craftsmanship, fabrication, and engineering experience to each project. We invest this wealth of expertise into every restoration, taking pride in every build to ensure our clients receive the highest quality product possible.

Our Approach to Restoration

In the vehicle restoration industry, the quality and depth of work can vary significantly. While some companies address only cosmetic issues, others delve deeper into the restoration process. At BMF, we rebuild from the ground up. Every vehicle is disassembled to the bare chassis, all parts are thoroughly inspected, and all wear items are replaced with factory-fresh or remanufactured parts.

We also incorporate numerous custom fabrication touches and upgrades, designing and crafting many components ourselves. From custom metal fabrication and bespoke leather interiors to custom paintwork, BMF builds stand out in the restoration business.

BMF Resources

With over 30 years of dedicated experience in the automotive industry, BMF Resources has developed an extensive network spanning six countries across the region. Our connections reach deeply into the automotive sector, linking us with retailers, wholesalers, maintainers, and a broad community of automotive enthusiasts. This well-established network provides us with unparalleled access to a rich and diverse pool of resources, enabling us to source, identify, and acquire exceptional automotive projects that meet the highest standards.

Our specialization in vintage vehicles is uniquely enhanced by Africa's distinctive dry climate, a crucial factor that significantly aids in preserving classic cars. Unlike more humid regions, where rust and deterioration can quickly set in, Africa’s arid conditions naturally help safeguard these valuable vehicles over time. This is especially beneficial for early models of iconic vehicles, such as Land Rovers and Land Cruisers, which have historically been popular in the region for their durability and adaptability to rugged terrain.

At BMF Resources, we’re passionate about preserving automotive history and providing our clients with access to some of the finest examples of vintage vehicles. Our expertise, combined with our strong network and the unique geographic benefits of Africa, positions us to deliver exceptional value to collectors and enthusiasts who seek high-quality, authentic classics.

Pre-Purchase Vehicle Assessment

Before acquiring vehicles for restoration, we conduct a meticulous pre-purchase assessment to ensure each vehicle meets our high standards. This process begins with a comprehensive inspection of the chassis, where we examine it for hidden damage, metal fatigue, and corrosion. Identifying these issues early is crucial for maintaining the vehicle's structural integrity and ensuring a successful restoration.

Thanks to our extensive inventory of new and remanufactured parts, we are well-prepared to address every restoration challenge. Whether it involves replacing body panels, doors, bonnets, engines, or entire drivetrains, we have the resources to manage these tasks with precision. Our access to high-quality parts guarantees that each replacement component meets or exceeds the original specifications, contributing to the overall excellence of the final product.

The BMF Restoration Process

1

Disassembly (Chassis)

At BMF, we fully strip every chassis, including all engine, suspension, and body mounting brackets, to ensure no hidden corrosion or damage is present. Once stripped, the chassis is sandblasted to remove all undercoating and paint. This process allows for a detailed inspection before the frame is treated for corrosion prevention and given its final coat of paint.

2

Suspension

Land Rover and Toyota Land Cruiser suspensions are renowned for their durability and robustness. However, advancements in suspension technology have significantly enhanced ride quality, handling, and road safety. To ensure that our restored vehicles meet the highest performance standards, we replace outdated suspension components with modern, high-performance parts.

3

Engine Rebuild

At BMF, we take a rigorous approach to engine restoration. We disassemble each engine down to the block for a thorough inspection and assessment. Our comprehensive engine overhaul process includes: Cylinder Refinishing or Resleeving, Main Bearings and Thrust Washer Set Replacement, Piston and Piston Ring Replacement, Resurfacing Cylinder Block and Head(s), Valve & Valve Spring Check/Replacement, New Injectors (Diesel Engines), Fuel Pump Rebuild/Replace, Carburetor Rebuild, New Cylinder Head Studs & Bolts.

4

Differentials, Wheel Hubs, Gearbox

We take great care in disassembling and rebuilding every differential, wheel hub, and gearbox. These critical components are prone to wear over time. Our meticulous process ensures that each part is thoroughly inspected, repaired/replaced, and tested to restore it to optimal performance.

BMF Custom Metal Fabrication

Our in-house metal shop specializes in creating bespoke metal components tailored to meet the specific needs of each project. Our approach goes beyond simply bolting on standard parts from a catalog.

Instead, our skilled metal craftsmen custom designs and fabricates a diverse range of metal components including custom-designed dashboards, front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, exocages, integrated gun vaults, roof racks, tyre carriers, trallies, and roll bars to enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of your build.

Paint Shop Excellence

At BMF, we take immense pride in delivering exceptional quality and standout paintwork from our dedicated in-house paint shop. Our paint shop offers a variety of options, including two-stage and three-stage paintwork, with choices ranging from pearls to metallic finishes. We exclusively use Dulux paints in our state-of-the-art spray booth to ensure a flawless finish.

LHD Conversion

For vehicles destined for foreign markets where left-hand drive (LHD) is the norm, we convert many of them to right-hand drive (RHD) configuration using certified remanufactured steering boxes. Our Series I, II, and III vehicles remain true to their original RHD configuration to preserve authenticity.

Performance Upgrades

At BMF, we conduct extensive upgrades to the suspension, engine performance, cooling system, and braking to enhance performance, comfort, and safety.

We also perform dyno tuning, which extracts 15% to 18% more horsepower and torque compared to OEM specifications, all while maintaining reliability.

Custom Leather Interiors

Our in-house upholstery shop crafts custom leather interiors using premium top-grain bovine leather and exotic African hides. Every interior is designed to reflect our clients' unique style, providing both luxury and durability.
